CALHOUN FALLS — A thin bank balance and a fiery confrontation over the town’s police department dominated a marathon Calhoun Falls Town Council meeting Monday night.

Finance officer Stephanie McElrath opened the session with a September financial report showing just $2,866.33 in the town’s General Fund.

Other accounts carried healthier totals:

Utility Fund $39,398.94

Court Fines $20,075.65

Victims Bill of Rights $45,132.02

Savings $6,027.02

American Rescue Plan $1,331.27

Police Department $633.59

Mayor Terrico Holland noted that payroll savings from unfilled jobs are temporarily inflating those numbers.

The town’s long-term debt remains heavy. To date, there is a balance of $338,774.76 on a property loan and $41,856.61 on a police vehicle loan through First Government Lease Co.
