Panaji: The special assembly session of the Goa Legislative Assembly would be held on Thursday, September 25 to elect new Speaker of the House.

Governor P Ashok Gajapathi Raju has summoned a special session Thursday which will start at 11.30 am.

The post of Speaker has fallen vacant after the resignation of Ramesh Tawadkar, ahead of his induction in the State cabinet.

While BJP has fielded its MLA Ganesh Gaonkar for the post, the opposition parties have fielded Congress MLA Altone D’Costa on their behalf.

BJP and alliance partners have 33 MLAs at their side while opposition has seven.

Deputy Speaker of the House Joshua D’Souza will be chairing the special session that will hold polling for the coveted post.
