A staff member at a “dirty” chippy was using a potato preparation room to wash or shower in, a food hygiene report has revealed. A folding camp bed, airbed, bedding, a suitcase, electric heater, toiletries (including a toothbrush stored on the gas hob in the kitchen), shower gel and shower puff, a pair of used underwear, headphones, a vape and Vaseline lip balm were being stored at Grangetown Chippy.

As well as “poor personal hygiene practices” at the Birchington Avenue venue, inspectors also found “dirty sponges were being used for cleaning equipment and utensils”, pizza trays stored directly on the floor and that the kebab cooker meat platform and meat shaver “were not kept clean”. The Grangetown takeaway was handed a food hygiene rating of one and told “major improvement necessary”
