A black bear spotted in Augusta remained on the loose Wednesday morning, noted authorities.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office issued a warning Tuesday evening to avoid the area around Stevens Creek and Clausen roads after receiving reports of a bear roaming the area. "The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is currently in the area of Stevens Creek Road at Clausen Road (where) a large black bear was spotted," noted an email sent late Tuesday.

The sheriff's office stated that officers from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources were unable to locate the bear on Tuesday and that "unless he is back in an area with people, he will be left alone."

The case has been turned over to DNR, noted the sheriff's office.

Authorities said that if anyone spots the bear, they should call 911.
