New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the Centre to create a dedicated online portal under the aegis of the union Home Ministry to trace missing children and monitor investigations in such cases.

A Bench comprising Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice R. Mahadevan highlighted the lack of coordination among state and union territory police forces in tracing missing children.

The court said each state should designate a nodal officer to be in charge of missing complaints and dissemination of information through the portal.

The Bench stressed the need for a “coordinated effort” and asked Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre, to seek instructions.
