Watson, who rose to fame playing Hermione Granger in all eight “Harry Potter” movies from 2001 to 2011, has distanced herself from Rowling in recent years due to the author’s views on transgender issues.

In 2020, after Rowling posted a series of tweets and a 3,600-word essay that many criticized as transphobic, Watson shared a brief statement voicing her support for the transgender community. “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are,” she wrote on social media.
