A sniper opened fire at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility Wednesday morning, killing one and injuring two others before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said .
According to Dallas police, the gunman, who had yet to be identified as of the time of writing, fired shots from an elevated position on a building nearby the detention facility. According to local news reports, all three victims were detainees. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed no law enforcement officers were injured, and suggested he believed the motive was political:
While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical (sic.) motive behind this attack … One of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase ‘ANTI ICE.’
