Essexville, Mich (WNEM) – Police found a crocodile at an Essexville home’s front yard following reports of it being an alligator.

According to the Hampton Township Public Safety Department, on sept. 24, officers were sent to the 800 block of W. Hampton Road for reports of an alligator sighting in an Essexville home’s front yard.

When police arrived, a 3-foot-long South American Crocodile was found sitting under a crab apple tree.

The reptile was safely captured and taken to its new home at the Birch Run Zoo, the department said.

Currently, there is no information as how it got out and into the wild.
