After an arduous months-long effort, Red Lodge Fire Rescue recovered the body of a hiker who went missing along the popular Beaten Path trail.

The hiker, 23-year-old Tim Sanford of Minnetonka, MN., was swept into East Rosebud Creek on June 8 while attempting to cross near the outlet of Rimrock Lake. Following repeated search efforts in the steep, rugged terrain, his body was found 1,500 feet downstream from the outlet, located by aerial drone. Billings-based U.S. Water Rescue Dive Team then recovered the body.

“After more than three months of dedicated search operations and hundreds of hours of volunteer time, we are grateful to finally be able to bring Tim home to his family,” Red Lodge Fire Rescue Chief Tom Kuntz said.
