The long arm of the law has gone too far in helping the Canadian government kill these long-necked birds on a farm in British Columbia. But the highest court in the land has stepped in and saved more than 350 ostriches from what was believed to be immediate extinction.

The Supreme Court of Canada has granted a “stay” until the ostriches get their day in court and their owners get a chance to file a leave to appeal. With that view, a cease-and-desist order from a B.C. Indigenous band, and an application to the Supreme Court of Canada, were two of the latest moves trying to prevent the Canadian government from going ahead with the cull.
