NY Mets Announcer Calls Out Cubs Player for Missing Pivotal Game to Attend Charlie Kirk Memorial: ‘Strikes Me as Weird’

New York Mets announcer Gary Cohen took issue with Chicago Cubs third baseman Matt Shaw missing a game to attend Charlie Kirk’s memorial service.

The service for Kirk — who was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10 — was held this past Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. That day, Shaw was notably absent as the Cubs took on the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs lost 1-0.

It wasn’t until after the game that it was revealed Shaw did not play because he was in Arizona for the service. He had been given permission by the team.
