Surrey-raised Arianna Hunsicker swam to a bronze medal the women’s 50 free S10 on opening night of the week-long 2025 Toyota World Para Swimming Championships (WPS), in Singapore from Sept. 20-27.
Hunsicker, a longtime swimmer with Surrey Knights Swim Club, now trains at Côte Saint-Luc Aquatics in Montreal with coach Michael Calcutt.
The medal was Hunsicker’s first in her third trip to the WPS competition. She touched the wall in 28.59, behind Defne Kurt of Türkiye, who set a championships record of 27.21, and Italy’s Alessia Scortechini (27.91).
“It’s so surreal,” the 22-year-old said in a blog on Swimming Canada's website . “Even though I knew there was maybe a shot at a medal, I saw the three on the board and I thought, ‘That’s not real. That can’t be real.’ It’s really overwhelmin
