A rare species of jellyfish whose tentacles can grow as long as 70 feet was spotted off the coast of Texas this week. The Drymonema Larsoni jellyfish, known as the 'Pink meanie' for their distinct colouring, can weigh up to fifty pounds and can be as long as two school buses when fully stretched out. ‌

Only confirmed as a new species as recently as 2011, at least 10 of these frightening creatures have washed up on a Texas beach recently according to Jace Tunnell, director of community engagement at Harte Research
