BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WHAM) – A rare discovery, equal to one in 30 million, was made by someone shopping for groceries, according to the New York Aquarium .

Kyle Brancato said he walked by the lobster tank while shopping at a Tops supermarket in Brighton, New York, where he came across a lobster that was bright orange in color.

Brancato said he knew instantly he was looking at something special, and he decided to save it.

“I think the only reason it was still in the tank was people probably thought it had a disease or something, because it looks so different, and nobody purchased it,” he said.

Without any experience in caring for lobsters, Brancato said he had to figure out how to keep it alive until he could get more help.

He said he got some tank water first, which gave him time to pick
