"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" is returning to NBC this week, kicking off the 27th season with longtime stars Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T at the helm.

With newly-appointed showrunner Michele Fazekas at the helm and Kelli Giddish returning for a series regular role as Sergeant Amanda Rollins, women are leading the charge in SVU's latest season. Hargitay's social media posts from on-set also hinted at appearances from several beloved characters from past seasons, including Dann Florek's Captain Cragen and Christopher Meloni's Elliot Stabler, who now stars in his own spinoff, "Law & Order: Organized Crime."

Fans can also expect to see a farewell to Detectives Joe Velasco (Octavio Pisano) and Kate Silva (Juliana Aidén Martinez), who Deadline reported in May would be leaving the series.
