First Lady Casey DeSantis and Lt. Gov. Jay Collins announced on Tuesday a major statewide undercover operation targeting the illegal sale of nitrous oxide.

Inhaling "laughing gas" (as nitrous oxide is known), without medical supervision, poses serious risks, including loss of consciousness, paralysis, neurological damage, and even death, with possible long-term effects that persist long after use has ceased.

The abuse of this substance has gained popularity among teenagers and young adults.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued strong warnings in March and June of this year against the inhalation or recreational use of any form of nitrous oxide, citing these serious health risks and deaths.
