LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A Letcher County man admitted in court Wednesday to killing his wife and their unborn child in 2023.

Letcher County Commonwealth’s Attorney Matt Butler said Lawrence Eugene Halcomb, 41, entered a guilty plea to the murders of Vanessa Halcomb and her unborn infant, along with other related charges.

Halcomb will be sentenced at a later date. Under the plea agreement, he would serve 50 years in prison.

Butler credited Kentucky State Police and local law enforcement officers for their work in capturing and investigating Halcomb.

“Mr. Halcomb has no reasonable expectation of seeing the outside of a prison’s walls,” Butler said. “My thoughts are with the victims’ families and I hope that our efforts bring them a little bit of comfort and closure.”
