Shaye Austine says her first born, Isla, never missed a milestone when she was a baby, from crawling, pulling herself up to stand, and taking her first steps at just nine months old.
That was until she reached the age of two and was barely speaking.
"She was a late talker. I knew we had issues there," Ms Austine recalled.
Now the mother from Logan, south of Brisbane, watches on with pride as five-year-old Isla perfectly pronounces words like ring, wing, and rail.
"Both my girls are thriving now, and you can see the changes in the development," Ms Austine said.
Along with her three-year-old sister Sammi, Isla has weekly visits with a speech pathologist at their local community centre.
