Alaska has received $183.4 million in federal highway funds through the Federal Highway Administration’s annual August Redistribution — the largest amount in state history. A portion of the funding will support continued work on the Cooper Landing Bypass, a long-planned safety project along the Sterling Highway.
The bypass is designed to reroute traffic around a narrow and hazardous section of highway in Cooper Landing, improving safety and mobility along one of Alaska’s most heavily traveled corridors.
The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) described the project as a “nationally recognized safety project” that balances mobility with environmental stewardship along the Kenai River.
