LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- An Illinois teen is accused in the 2023 cyberattacks on MGM and Caesars, the biggest resort operators in Las Vegas, when he was 15 years old, the 8 New Now Investigators have learned.

The teen, now 17, appeared in juvenile court Wednesday.

Caesars paid the alleged hackers $15 million after extortion and threats. MGM did not comply, resulting in a $200 million loss, and more than 65,000 social security numbers were stolen, according to Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Summer Clarke.

MGM disputed the amount Clarke referenced, citing an SEC filing which shows an impact of approximately $110 million.
