Cloverdale’s Lowan Le Bris placed fifth at the recent judo world championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Competing in the cadet category (18 and under) for the under-73 kg weight class, Le Bris had a good tournament overall, making the bronze final and only losing the medal-round fight in the final moments to a Georgian competitor.
He placed 5th overall because in judo competitions there are two bronze medal matches. So there are rankings of 1-6 after the medal round. Le Bris ranked higher than the fighter who lost the other bronze match, otherwise he may have finished sixth overall.
