The Indiana Court of Appeals determined Wednesday that sufficient evidence was presented at a 2024 trial to convict a Winfield gas station clerk of beating to death a 36-year-old woman in her nearby residence.

Raju Rawal, 68, was found guilty of murder by a Lake County jury and sentenced to 60 years in prison for causing the death of Haley Losinski on Feb. 23, 2023, by blunt force trauma, according to court records.

Rawal, who maintained he was innocent throughout his five-day trial, argued to the state appeals court that only circumstantial evidence linked him to the crime.

But Appeals Judge Leanna Weissmann, writing on behalf of a unanimous three-judge panel, said in Indiana circumstantial evidence alone may sustain a murder conviction, and in this case the record show
