If elected state auditor in 2026, Lt. Gov. Chris Cournoyer said her first move would be to "audit the auditor's office" and maintain its taxpayer watchdog role to root out waste, fraud and abuse if Republicans flip the seat from Democratic control.
Although Rob Sand — the lone statewide elected Democrat — is not seeking a third four-year term as auditor and is instead running for governor in the 2026 midterm elections , Cournoyer went on the attack against him while speaking to the Westside Conservative Club in Urbandale on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
"He has really politicized the position, and I feel like he's gone around the state and used his position for his own political ambition," Cournoyer said.
