CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - As Iryna’s Law waits for Governor Josh Stein’s signature, advocates against the death penalty are hoping the governor will veto the legislation.
The bill calls for reinstating capital punishment and potentially adding new methods of execution.
Pat McCoy’s sister was murdered in Washington in 1974.
“When she was 25 years old, she was out there in college, and she was raped and very brutally murdered, so the last couple of hours of her life were something that’s really hard to think about,” McCoy said.
McCoy said even though what happened to his sister was brutal and tragic, he and many other family members of homicide victims feel bringing back executions is not the right decision.
