JACKSON, MI — About a dozen current and former state prison officials in Jackson County are accused of ignoring pleas for help from a prisoner in mental distress before he was injured in a 30-foot fall, according to a new federal lawsuit.
Daniel Lee Moore, 52, was at Parnall Correctional Facility in November 2022 when, “not fully oriented and confused,” he allegedly reported feeling endangered by other inmates who threatened to throw him off a second-floor prison gallery.
His complaint, filed this month, contends Michigan Department of Corrections staff were aware of Moore’s fear and “disregarded the risk of harm” to him by allowing him to remain in his cell with access to the gallery despite those reports.
