PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - There will be no Friday night lights for football players at Pickens County High School and Gordo High School this week.
For the first time in 100 years the game known as the “8 Mile War” will not be played, due to a social media post from Gordo V Cheer Facebook page.
Lee Richardson, the principal at Pickens County High School, says the post has caused deep concern for students, families and the community.
The post has been deleted and an apology has been made. Richardson says the decision to cancel the game was made out of an abundance of caution, with the safety and well-being of our students, athletes and community placed above all.
