LYON COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — The Lyon County Sheriff's Office has alerted the public to a scam involving an individual posing as “Deputy Williams.”

It is one of several varieties of recent phone scams reported in the state.

In a social post, the sheriff's office said, "We don’t know how to say this any differently. We will NEVER tell you to settle a warrant by sending Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies."

"If a 'government employee', 'bank employee' or anybody else is advising you to take your money and put it into crypto for either safekeeping, to pay off a debt, or for bond on a warrant, that is a red flag," the post continued, advising people to hang up and contact trusted authorities instead.
