A 70-year-old Detroit man was killed Wednesday morning in a traffic crash on Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township, officials said.

According to the Bloomfield Township Police Department, at around 10:15 a.m. a police officer spotted a maroon Ford Explorer northbound on Telegraph Road near Long Lake Road being driven erratically, crossing multiple lanes of traffic and onto the median. The officer attempted to stop the Explorer by activating lights and sirens, but it continued northbound and subsequently crashed into multiple vehicles before hitting a larger box truck stopped at Hickory Grove Road.

A crew from the Bloomfield Township Fire Department responding to the scene attempted lifesaving care for the Explorer’s driver, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
