A woman charged in Bessemer slaying of a 76-year-old man who police say was beaten to death with a space heater has one week to decide whether she will plead guilty or take her case to trial.
Monyuett Catrice Hinson is charged with capital murder in the 2021 death of 76-year-old Alverner Blanks.
Hinson appeared before Jefferson County Bessemer Cutoff Circuit Judge David Carpenter Wednesday for a pretrial hearing.
Assistant District Attorney Brent Butler told Carpenter prosecutors have offered the 28-year-old Hinson a deal to plead guilty to a reduced charge of murder with 20 years to serve.
Prosecutors, who have offered the plea with the agreement of the victim’s family, initially extended an offer that called for a 30-year-old sentence.
