TEXARKANA, Ark. - An 87-year-old Texarkana woman says she's found purpose in volunteering to help those struggling with hunger.
For more than 40 years, the St. Edwards Catholic Charities Outreach Center has been serving meals to the homeless community.
Dedicated volunteers are the backbone of the outreach center in downtown Texarkana. It serves about 200 meals a day.
“I just came down one day to bring them some sandwiches. And I saw how hard everyone was working. So, I just came back in the next day and stayed with them,” said Betty Nolte, longtime volunteer.
Nolte has served as a volunteer for 16 years.
Last August, she moved to Asher Point Independent Living of Texarkana but still dedicates her time to helping the community.
