Mark Eugene Warfel, named in court as the prime suspect in the 1989 disappearance and presumed death of Tracy Kroh , died in prison this month.

Dauphin County Commissioner Justin Douglas announced at Wednesday’s Dauphin County Prison Board meeting that Warfel, 92, died Sept. 11 at SCI Laurel Highlands in Somerset County.

Kroh was 17 when she vanished in Millersburg the summer just before her senior year at Halifax High.

Although Warfel had been tied to Tracy and her family — including fathering one of her sisters — he was never charged in her case. His children suspected him in the 2018 death of his wife as well. He was never charged in that case, either.
