TRAVERSE CITY — An extended stretch of warm, dry late-summer weather is helping Northern Michigan vintners rescue a regional grape crop that’s endured a challenging growing season.

A summer that’s featured weeks of Canadian wildfire smoke sprinkled with periods of cool, wet and humid weather created numerous obstacles for this year’s grape harvest. But a warm and mostly dry period that’s expected to continue into early fall has local vineyard managers and wine-makers cautiously optimistic about this year’s grape crop.
