FLORISSANT, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A man is facing a child kidnapping charge after being accused of kidnapping a student from a Florissant middle school.

James E. Paulette is charged with one count of child kidnapping.

The 43-year-old is accused of posing as a family member to sign the 8th-grade student out from Cross Keys Middle School on Tuesday. Court documents state that Paulette claimed there was a death in the victim’s family.

According to court documents, the school allowed Paulette to sign the 13-year-old out even though he was not a relative nor known to the victim’s parents.

The victim’s parents called the police when they could not locate the child. Police then obtained surveillance video and identified the license plates of the car that drove away from the school.
