A second judge could be brought in to review Lucas County Children Services records to determine which, if any, of them is relevant to the Darnell Jones capital murder case.

Judge Michael Goulding suggested that option as “a middle ground” during a hearing Wednesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for prosecutors’ motion to quash Jones’ defense lawyers’ subpoena for “all records of agency involvement” with three people relevant to the case.

He broached the idea after David Klucas, one of Jones’ lawyers, said prosecutors’ alternative to quashing, under which Judge Goulding would preside over a closed-door review of the Children Services records, could complicate the case if it were later tried before a three-judge bench including Judge Goulding.
