MODESTO, Calif. —

A high school is on lockdown after reports of a suspicious device on Wednesday, the Modesto Police Department said.

At 1:20 p.m., the police department said its officers went to Sierra Drive and 1st Street for reports of a suspicious device left in a stroller near a bus stop. In response, Modesto High School, which is nearby, went into a precautionary lockdown.

The police department said a bomb squad unit from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department is on the way to the scene.

Modesto High is notifying parents and working on a dismissal plan for students, the police department said.

This is a developing story. KCRA 3 is working to gather details on whether the suspicious device is a verified explosive or if it's inert.
