Evans is one step closer to making a new police station a reality after breaking ground on construction of the building Friday evening.

Construction at the new site, 3819 Saint Vrain St., is slated to take roughly 18 months and is expected to cost about $35 million, according to a city news release. The new 30,000-plus-square-foot station will be funded by the food for at-home consumption tax, which was instituted more than 20 years ago and earmarked for public safety projects.
