MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Manchester residents will cast their votes for mayor in six weeks, and while the race has been quiet, it could offer a glimpse of the future.

The candidates for mayor of Manchester are relatively youthful. First-term incumbent Mayor Jay Ruais is the elder statesman at age 40, while Democratic challenger Jessica Spillers is a young mother who serves on the school board.

Spillers filed at the last minute to run against Ruais with a campaign prioritizing education.

"People are concerned about things like education, cost of living," she said. "Groceries and utilities are skyrocketing, and I'm feeling the pinch, too."
