For the first time after 60 years, Syrian President addressed the United Nations General Assembly, declaring the country’s return to the international community after the Assad regime’s fall last December.

Associated Press quoted President Ahmed al-Sharaa as saying that Syria is returning to the international community after six decades of dictatorship that killed 1 million people and tortured hundreds of thousands.

He said the Syrian state has worked on forming fact-finding missions and gave the United Nations the right to investigate the killings that took place this year. “I promise to bring anyone whose hands are tainted with the blood of Syrian people to justice."
