ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — Massachusetts leaders highlighted a local school district on Wednesday as they unveiled new statewide graduation requirements that will replace the MCAS exam.

Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll announced the first steps for "The Vision of a Massachusetts Graduate," a framework designed to ensure all students leave high school with the skills needed for success in life.

The vision identifies six core competencies centered around qualities of thinkers, contributors and leaders. Under the plan, a high school diploma will signify that graduates are academically prepared, critical problem solvers, self-aware navigators, intentional collaborators, effective communicators and responsible decision makers.
