CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A lawsuit filed by former UNC-Chapel Hill provost Chris Clemens accuses the university’s Board of Trustees of entering unlawful closed sessions and maintaining double standards in how it makes big decisions.

The suit says trustees delayed voting on faculty tenure this spring after debating the long-term cost of those promotions behind closed doors.

But just a few months earlier, the lawsuit says, the same board hired head football coach Bill Belichick in a closed-door “emergency” meeting. His contract is reported at roughly $10 million per year, plus salaries for his sons and added staff.
