DUBLIN, Ga. — Dublin City Schools announced Tuesday it will close its Leaping Leprechaun daycare facility on October 14, marking the first casualty in the district's ongoing budget reduction efforts as administrators grapple with mounting financial pressures from state leaders .

Superintendent Fred Williams informed staff of the closure, which affects approximately 20 children of district employees who relied on the free childcare resource. The facility opened in 2023 as a benefit for school staff members.

Daycare employees learned of their termination during hastily scheduled one-on-one meetings Tuesday afternoon, according to a paraprofessional who spoke on condition of anonymity.
