COLUMBIA, S.C. — A federal judge declined Wednesday to immediately rule on several motions from former Lexington County lawmaker R.J. May, delaying a decision until next week as his child sex abuse material trial approaches.

May made an appearance before U.S. Judge Cameron McGowan Currie in federal court Wednesday as he seeks to suppress evidence ahead and secure a change of venue for the trial beginning in October. He once represented District 88 and co-founded the ultra-conservative Freedom Caucus, and is representing himself in the case. He faces 10 federal counts that could carry up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
