ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Investigators with the Orangetown County Sheriff’s Department are working to resolve a welfare check that resulted in a standoff Wednesday afternoon.
“We’re taking every precaution to bring this to a positive conclusion,” the sheriff said. “This was just a welfare check, and now it’s been made into something more.”
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said that Orangeburg County Sheriff’s investigators were called to a residence on the 4000 block of Bamberg Highway on Wednesday afternoon for a welfare check.
Deputies said the result ended in a standoff with a resident at the home.
Law enforcement is telling drivers to use alternate routes to avoid any congestion in the area.
