In 14 seasons, Russell Wilson has never been a long-term backup quarterback in the NFL.

“The best thing I can do is lead from the front,” Wilson said after Wednesday’s practice. “I thank God every day that I get to do what I love to do and play this game with guys that I love and enjoy being around...it’s about the team and helping Jaxson.”

The Giants signed Wilson, 36, this offseason on a one-year, $10.5 million deal to be their starter. That, of course, didn’t work out as the Giants opened up their season with an 0-3 record and no choice but to shake things up under center.
