IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - In a matter of minutes, the Johnson County board of supervisors ended months of planning for a possible joint law enforcement building with Iowa City.
“Rather than get to a majority of two bodies we’ll have to get to a majority of one body,” Said Johnson County Supervisor Rod Sullivan.
Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel was a key driver of Wednesday’s vote. Following a contentious Iowa City City Council Meeting, he announced he wouldn’t support a combined law enforcement building with the city.
“I don’t think it’s in the best interests of the county to be in a relationship with elected officials who see no value for law enforcement,” Kunkel said.
The Sheriff says the county doesn’t need to start from scratch with its new plans. Kunkel said the county already ha
