LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - More than two decades after a man was struck and killed while riding his bicycle along I-10 near Vinton, officials have finally identified him as Dennis Elmo-Wright.

The Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office made the announcement this week and credited new advancements in forensic technology for solving the long-cold case.

Back in the early 2000s, investigators discovered two metal rods in the man’s leg and attempted to trace the lot numbers. They also submitted fingerprints to federal databases, but at the time, nothing came back.

“Originally, nothing came back on file. Then a deep search of records by the FBI led to a call on Sunday saying, ‘Hey, we’ve identified your guy,’” Special Cases Investigator Zeb Johnson said.
