WILLIAMSPORT — The Lycoming County Republican Committee has voted to oppose the retention of the county’s president judge on Nov. 4.

Judge Nancy L. Butts does not hold the values of the Republican Party in terms of public safety, committee chair Donald Peters said. “We stand for the law,” he said. He also cited bail issues.

Sheriff R. Mark Lusk, who is retiring at the end of the year, was the leading advocate at last Thursday’s committee meeting for not endorsing Butts, a Republican and the county’s first female judge.
