If you own a home in Seminole County, your property tax bill could raise eyebrows as property taxes in Seminole are increasing for the first time in 16 years.

The county acknowledges the move is unpopular, but said it has no other option.

On Tuesday, the Seminole County Commission voted to support a property tax increase, adding about an additional 50 cents per $1,000 of taxable value on a property.

Residents showed up at the county commission to voice a wide range of opinions on the increase.

"Your eyes are bigger than your stomachs and our wallets," said one man.

"As a new homeowner here, I was attracted to buying here because of its affordability, and I think increasing the millage rate will decrease the attractiveness of buying in this county," said another.
