A man is accused of shooting and killing a ride-share driver who was taking him and his girlfriend to a house in Guadalupe, Maricopa County Sheriff's officials said Sept. 24.

A woman called 911 shortly after 8:30 a.m. to report her boyfriend shot their Lyft driver as they were being taken to a home near East Calle Barbarita and Calle Bella Vista, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

Sheriff's deputies found an unresponsive man in the driver's seat of a gray Nissan Sentra on Calle Bella Vista. The driver, identified as 51-year-old John Lucas, was later pronounced dead by Phoenix fire personnel.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's website listed Lucas' death as a homicide.
