BALTIMORE -- Samuel Basallo exited during the bottom of the ninth inning of the Orioles’ 6-2 loss to the Rays at Camden Yards on Wednesday night, when he was plunked in the right hand/wrist area on a fastball by right-hander Pete Fairbanks.
Basallo (Baltimore’s No. 1 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 8 overall ) immediately bent over in pain, then quickly exited with a trainer down the steps of the first-base dugout. The pitch was a 96.6 mph heater from Fairbanks.
It is not yet known how severe the injury may be for Basallo, who is hitting .176 with a .596 OPS through the first 29 games of his MLB career.
